Well if it isn't tuesday again... MY FAVOURITE DAY! I get to post another post and get to watch the stats every minute for the next week... I actually check it 24/7 not even lying.
Tonight I have an insight to the FAT MANGO, it sounds so yummy! I know you are all thinking why the heck is she blogging about mangoes.. have I gone crazy? Has my day life made me a lunatic - most likely. But, fat mango is actually a really cool online store(located in bordertown SA ! So kinda local to me ) that I found on my community of Instagram.
I actually wore one of their necklaces (apparently it looks like a lolly necklace - my partner asked if he could have one of the lollies!!!! but it's super stylish and I love it!) anyway, I wore it to my local shops and ended up having a half an hour conversation with a lady that worked their and we stalked the fat mango feed together!
Fat Mango is run by not one but two very creative and lively girls! Blog meet Em & Rik who are two besties.
"We both teach at the local school, play netball, work out (a little less than pre mango days😂) and love DIY, craft, making our homes rad. When you live in a small town like Bordertown sometimes you have to make your own fun, so we craft and online shop a lot!"
Em also does home spray tanning (hit her up if you are ever in Bordertown ) and a girlfriend of theirs used to tell her please don't make me look like a fat mango and this where the name originated. Em started out making soy candles and was invited to have a candle stall at a local market.
"We asked if fat mango could join too... It's sky rocketed from there! Our first market was in November last year. "
I asked Em & Rik what a day in the life of a Fat Mango business owner was like and it really put into perspective how much hard & passionate work these girls put in. They are constantly on the ball about Fat Mango and always working on it quite literally whenever they can...
"A typical day is wake up, normally text each other with new goodies we've found over night or a job list for the day.
We have a constant Facebook message happening. This is about what we've ordered, who replied to what email, what sold over night etc
We then get ready for school (snap chatting each other making sure we're not wearing the same thing), post photo on Instagram, reply to messages and browse insta for cool stuff!
Teach teach teach! Recess lunch and lessons off often include fat mango business meetings and jobs like organising postage, posting insta photos etc. We see each other at work which makes it much easier to communicate!
Meetings after school of what jobs we'll both do tonight then rush to the post office before 5!
Go home to find new goodies delivered! Photograph them and add them online!
Go to basketball/netball/gym home for tea then check emails, order, update website, craft! Maybe the odd school job too!
Message each other again!
Pass out in bed at around 11 scrolling through Instagram looking for new items to stock. "
I asked Rik & Em about their favourite things about having a business, and they mentioned about the sense of connection & community that they have become apart of through connecting with other locally made brands or homemade businesses.
"Our small town is excited about Fat Mango and always comment about new things! I love the connections we are making locally and with all our makers around Australia and even international. Our sense of community has grown so much. "
Although, the girls also mentioned that they feel as though Fat Mango has made them addicted to Social media (Can I hear an amen!!!)
Em & Rik told me there inspiration for their business was GIRL BOSSES (YAY) I had to include their quote.. it made me giggle so much!
"Girl bosses. Who rule the world Beyoncé asks? girls. Girl bosses out there smashing corporation and large scale business asses."
Em & Rik have a lot ahead of them in the future, including their new hand painted clutches I've been stalking on instagram - they will be exclusively available just from them (@fat.mango).
"Our new purses will still have all our original and popular designs, they'll just be made from different, more durable materials."
Lastly, I ask Rik & Em if they wanted everyone to know anything else..
"We just love making and supporting awesome, one of a kind, handmade goodies for people to be excited about.
Anyone who makes handmade products knows how much planning, designing, trialling and making goes into creating these goodies and how disappointing it is when you see people copying your ideas and products. We're sure every handmade instagrammer has come across this. We all love inspiring others to get creative and we all get our inspiration from somewhere, but remember to make it your own. "
I totally agree with that! I'm to scared to put photos of my designs for my new swim wear line until they are launched, because I am so scared of being copied. I see it continuously on my news feed - but I think I am going to have to look at it as a compliment if it ever does happen!
I hope you all have a great insight of who are the Fat Mango and why they do what they do :).
Homework this week! Check out their fabulous feed and website - trust me you won't regret it!
It is totally my bed time now!
